How’s everyone doing with their food
storage these days? If you’re like
me, you get all psyched up after a great lesson or class, go home and take
inventory . . . then gradually lose sight of the project . . . again. I think the best way to make food
storage an ongoing success is to watch for unusually low prices on things your family uses on a regular
basis—then buy a year’s worth—one
product at a time. For example,
last week Maceys advertised Wesson’s Vegetable Oil for $2.79 for a 48 oz
bottle. That’s a great price for a
name brand, and since I only have a few bottles on hand, I decided to buy a
couple more, even though it was plain vegetable oil instead of canola oil,
which I prefer. When I got to the
baking aisle I saw that not only was Wesson’s Vegetable $2.79, but they were including
Wesson Canola Oil as well—at a savings of over $3.00 per bottle! Now that’s a stock up price. So instead of buying two bottles, I
bought four—and with what I already had at home, I now have a year’s supply of
oil.
