Hello everyone!
A couple of years ago I was asked by my ward Relief Society* leaders if I would be willing to send out a weekly newsletter to all the sisters in our ward which would point out a few good buys at our local grocery stores. This was primarily for the purpose of helping families build their food storage as economically as possible. My first few letters were pretty basic (and short), but after awhile I started adding a recipe each week that would make good use of some of the ad prices on particular items.**
As time went on, the recipes seemed to become more interesting to many of the sisters than the grocery listings themselves. I started taking photos as I cooked so that I could include pictures with the recipes. Eventually, some of the other wards in our stake requested that I also forward it to them for distribution to their sisters. In addition, many people told me that they send it each week to family and friends. Because of this, my daughters suggested that I post the information in a blog format so that everyone could benefit from the grocery deals, and have access to the old letters and recipes as well.
I have enjoyed sharing our family traditions and food with my sisters; it’s fun to hear them tell me about a particular dish they tried that is now a favorite in their family. My shopping philosophy is centered around making meals from what’s on sale each week, and this is what I’ve taught my now-grown girls, who are some of the best bargain shoppers I know. There are so many ways to save, including couponing, on-line clubs, and watching for unadvertised close-out or close-dated prices on the aisles of the store, that there’s no reason to go out shopping unprepared.
I hope that my experiences and ideas will help other shoppers make the most out of their food dollar and learn to use that food to feed their families in new and exciting ways.

**Thanks to my fellow bloggers for providing some of the photographs for my posts---I sometimes forget to take pictures, so I'm always glad if I can find a similar recipe to give my readers an idea of what my food will look like.
I wish that I were standing there right now so I could sample all that delectible food!
ReplyDeleteJust enjoying your wonderfully inspired blog! God Bless :)
